Chinese search engine Baidu, in its first public response on rumors that Google wants to buy a bigger stake, pours cold water on the idea.
“Enjoying a huge market share in China, Baidu believes independent development is its best way out,” reports the Chinese publication, People’s Daily Online, supposedly quoting a Baidu executive. Note, though, that this is an anonymous quote.
Meanwhile, the President of Yahoo China, Zhou Hongyi, announced a sudden resignation. He leaves for “personal reasons,” a line that almost always suggests intrigue.
