With the Web 2.0 conference getting under way today, there’ll be tons of news about new companies. One company to present today is Zvents. Founded by Ethan Stock and Tyler Kovacs, the private company says its mission “to be the best way to find events online. Currently live for the Bay Area, Zvents has the most comprehensive set of events delivered with the latest technology and the best user experience.” The company’s backed by NetService Ventures Group and Red Rock Ventures.

Zvents will face stiff competition in this space, though, including, as of today last night, Yahoo. The Internet giant has snapped up Upcoming.org, the side project by Southern California programmer Andy Baio. Interestingly, when Yahoo briefed us on their new local search service a couple of months ago, they coyly declined to divulge where their events info was coming from. Were they using Upcoming back then?

Meanwhile, let’s not forgot EVDB, which just changed its name to the far more memorable Eventful and has redone its interface to make it more intuitive to use. That’s the company by Brian Dear that we profiled back in March.

There is an error in this entry - the link to “Zevents” is mispelled, and also the text for the link is mispelled. Supposed to be “Zvents” . Just a heads up to one of my favorite Silicon Valley blogs =)

Maybe Matt can blog safely before he’s had his morning coffee, but I obviously can’t. Typos fixed. Apologies to all.
