Yahoo expands its Web 2.0 empire with del.icio.us

We were joking with someone at the Web 2.0 conference this year about whether they should rename the conference next year to Yahoo 2.0, since the company seems hell-bent on scooping up every popular Web 2.0 company. It’s becoming less of a joke. Today, Jeremy Zawodny announces that Yahoo has acquired del.icio.us, the social bookmarking start-up that helped popularize tagging. Fred Wilson must be happy. Yeesh. Who’s next?

  • It would be a stupendous piece of reporting if you guys could come up with a price (or range) for this deal!
  • Funny story. Yahoo is doing great.
  • Yahoo is definitely doing better, but I still question this purchase. I think it was the wrong way to go.

It is definitely not a follower mover, but the growth rates are way over estimated given the over competitive nature of the space del.cio.us is in!
