Nice little coup for Six Apart, which has had a not-so-enjoyable past couple of months. The SF blogging company’s Movable Type software is now the default blogging tool for Yahoo’s web hosting services. Individuals and businesses that used Yahoo hosting could install Movable Type themselves; now the software will come pre-installed and ready to activate. Yahoo hosts about 30 million individual Web sites, the company says, so this is a pretty nifty distribution deal for Six Apart. The offering is aimed at small businesses that want to use a blog to enhance this web sites. Six Apart declined to discuss the financial terms of the deal with us.

By the way, Six Apart CEO Barak Berkowitz told us a little over a week ago that the company appears to be mostly past its technical issues with TypePad.

Check out the developer program for our new blogging application.

I think there there is still a lot of room for innovation in terms of blogging software.

I left Typepad for WP last May & I’m happy I did. I haven’t followed TP much since so I don’t know precisely what type of technical problems they’ve had. But I’m not surprised. I’ve written about the TP vs. WP experience at my blog as well.
