And they're analyzing the text of blog posts to see what people are talking about. An example Rich Skrenta gave involves two stories written by two publications (the Wash Post and the NY Times) that are about the same topic. Even if bloggers are linking to the different stories, Topix will recognize that they are talking about the same thing and group them together. Same holds true even if there are no links.
