Google's announces news archive

Googlenewslogo.jpgGoogle today unveiled News Archive Search.

The new service will allow people to search archives of magazine, newspaper and other publications, dating in some cases back more than 200 years. Part of its Archive Search offering, the service will include The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Time, Guardian Unlimited, Factiva, Lexis-Nexis, HighBeam Research and Thomson Gale.

Like the Labeler feature mentioned yesterday, this is another example of Google using clout to push noteworthy advances. There is very little “community” around Google’s news site, though it many not really need it, given its popularity. Digg, Newsvine, NowPublic and many more start-ups are plowing the community-oriented news field.
