The WSJ reports (sub required) that Google is in talks to acquire video-sharing site YouTube for roughly $1.6 billion.
But it cites only “a person familiar with the matter,” which is frustratingly vague. As we’ve said before, everyone talks to everyone in this place, and they’d be silly not to. It would be an intriguing play, but also just the sort of buzz YouTube would like to have circulating in order to get Yahoo and Microsoft pounding at its doors. ;)
See chart below for evidence that YouTube continues to leave Google behind:

What has changed in the last 6-12 months with YouTube.com, nothing but the price tag. Google droped Froggle and now in fear of loosing it’s video property tries to aquire the youtube giant. Interesting move but why not last year?

I have a hard time seeing this happen. It is surprising to me how much of the media reported these talks as fact, when all we have is one anonymous person saying something.
