Verisign to acquire wireless consultancy, inCode, for $52M

VeriSign, a Mountain View provider of Internet addresses and network services, has agreed to buy inCode Wireless, a San Diego company that provides wireless consulting.
The $52 million price was unlikely enough to provide a profitable return to inCode’s investors, which included Sequoia Capital. VentureBeat has no record of the company’s previous rounds, but VentureWire reports the company raised a fourth round of venture capital in 2003 of $25 million, suggesting it has raised much more than that. We’ve requested more details. There is a press release on inCode’s site, but there is no link because it is a Flash site.
The acquisition adds to recent purchases by VeriSign aimed at offering more services to network operators. In May, the company bought m-Qube for about $250 million to add software that helps companies manage wireless networks. VeriSign also bought video-services provider Kontiki and mobile applications company 3united Mobile Solutions this year.
