Eons, the Web site for people aged 50 and older

eons.bmpEons, the Web site for people aged 50 and over, says its traffic is growing rapidly, and has raised $22 million in a second round of financing.

Eons, based in Boston, has a built a search engine focused on the 50-plus generation, called Cranky.com. It is difficult to tell how well Cranky and the overall company is doing, because it hasn’t released many specifics. Cranky’s users, while older, are apparently an active bunch. Number one search is “sex,” and sixth is “online dating.”

The financing was led by Charles River Ventures. New investors Intel Capital and Humana also invested, as did existing investors General Catalyst Partners and Sequoia Capital.

Austin Westerling, partner at CRV, noted in a statement that the new generation of “spirited 50-plus adults” is attractive because it has substantial purchasing power.

Eons raised $10 million last year.
