Our virtual world experience so far has been dominated by Second Life and other PC-oriented games.
Now, virtual worlds are going mobile.
Gemini Mobile, a San Mateo company, says that hundreds of thousands of Japanese are subscribers to S!Town, a mobile virtual world with a 3D interface it has built that lets users shop, chat and build custom property, among other things — all with an avatar of course.
Today the company announces it has just raised $20 million from Goldman Sachs.

Might be a winner!! I wouldn’t discount SL in the pervasive/ubiq space, but it’s not a great UX on a laptop or desktop, so I can’t imagine that it will be better on a handheld platform.
A SL killer will work from day one one a mobile platform; that’s a key to building a SL killer.
