Why are all these folks Toni boosters? Am I missing something? What does she say that hasn't been said a hundred times before.

Are they all looking for funds and trying to win her over?

Great post! As you note, pitching to angels is very different than pitching to VCs and it's good for entrepreneurs to keep that in mind.

One thing you didn't touch on (that was probably outside the scope of your post) is where to find angels, other than working your contacts. Suggestions?

Toni,

Great analysis - I recall pitching to angels for my last company. I noticed the variety of facial expressions in the room as I spoke, and I catered my presentation to the ones I thought were interested. I was somewhat misled - some that appeared interested were not, and others appeared uninterested but were. It felt like a crapshoot, and this analysis helps explain why. Thanks!

Toni- You reflect both sides of the equation well- both why angels do it and what entrepreneurs should expect and respect from angels.

Toni:
Really a four star commentary. I think you have captured the essence of TCA in a broad and concise way. I think your write-up should be included in our TCA marketing brochure. Well done!

Carl Murray

Point 3 is misleading. Successful angels get lucky. Very lucky. They are no better than anyone else at picking who will be a winner. They all look for the same things as you mention (team, plan, exit)...but predicting success is like predicting the weather 2 years out. It's all about luck in the end...
