In an ideal world, UCB could and should say no to this money. Even if it doesn’t taint their results, it will taint their credibility. However, this is not an ideal world and the federal government is not funding research the way it should be. So yes, UCB should accept the money and try to make something good of it.

With that type of money, it also comes a lot of strings attach with it. The article states,”In return for its funding, BP will have the first right to negotiate an exclusive license to the research.”
Remember BP was the company that killed 14 workers in a Texas refinery because they did not want to spend money on maintance of the refinery. BP is also the company that did not adequately supervised the pipelines in Alaska.
As for the Tobbaco Industry, They are paying billions from the settlement done in the 1990’s. There is no advertisment of cigarrettes to kids through cartoons, sports events and no more marborol man ads on TV.

Those libbies that oppose *BIG OIL* should be tarred and feathered — 500,000,000 is a lot of green we need here in the Golden State. If we could only get Big Tobacco to be so generous!
