I believe some of the reasons that you don't see this today is because most companies don’t last longer than a nanosecond and most employees know that they should keep their eyes and ears open for other opportunities from day one. It's "corny" because of the lack of trust of the employer – employees know that it’s all about the exit strategy and the investors, not about building a long term company. A corporate nationalistic identity is great if your part of that exit strategy. Great companies have done this in the past.
