A very interesting drug indeed.I would however like to know the full animal data that is available, apart from safety issues. How did the virus behave, how long was it administered for, what is known on reservoirs and sanctuary sites-with this drug and animal trials.

[...] I am now moved in to my new room in graduate school. Classes have yet to start, but the weather is nice, the rooms are spacious, and the campus is very beautiful. It’s a bit weird to settle into a new campus this fall instead of returning to the old undergraduate campus, but I’m very excited about what’s to come. I’m also nervous that I’ve gotten soft during the summer, so I’m currently reviewing a bit of genetics, but in the meantime, I stumbled upon this interesting article on treating HIV by raising its mutation rate.
[...] Personalized medicine takes a (tiny) step forward. David Hamilton at VentureBeat discusses the FDA approval of Selzentry, a new AIDS drug from Pfizer. The drug, however, only works against a particular sub-strain of HIV which binds to a T-cell surface protein called CCR5. Most HIV strains use CXCR4 or a combination of the two. So, not only will OUR genomes be important for personalized medicine, so will the genomes of every pathogen that has infected us. David also discusses a new drug aimed at increasing HIV replication in Koronis: Mutating HIV into extinction. [...]
