Hi there I came across this posting after googling for ringtones. Thanks for the interesting read. I have often thought about SayNow lets musicians stay in touch with fans, raises $7.5M too. Thanks for sharing. On Sunday I will have time to look into it more.

[...] SayNow Lets Musicians Stay in Touch with Fans, Raises $7.5MM VENTUREBEAT SayNow, a Palo Alto company that provides a free calling service to bands on MySpace to stay in touch with their fans, has raised $7.5 million in venture capital. For now, it’s difficult to see how SayNow can make serious money from its model. The service offers bands a dedicated phone line, allowing them to leave a voice message for their fans. The musicians do this by placing a widget on their Web site, listing a unique phone number. Fans can call and listen to the message, leave messages for the band, and register to get updates. The musicians can give the number out at concerts - and the one-to-many relationship is made very easy. Source> [...]

Matt,

As a point of clarification, we have several artists that are well on their way to make more than $100K by simply communicating with their audience. This shouldn't surprise anyone, as the mobile ads that we use in our text and voice channel have very high CPMs and high clickthrough rates since they are so targeted. Mobile advertising is early, but long term, we believe it will build many profitable businesses, much as web advertising has enabled.
