Beyond the traffic loss is how Google is presenting the articles - the stories are much more user-friendly than most news Web sites.

I did a screencast comparing the same AP story on Google News and three other media sites.

Google News wins hands down for simplicity of presentation and time to download.

My gut says every member of the AP Board should be removed because of this.

People have said, Google isn't getting the "state wire", how long do you think that will last?

I always thought it was silly to read the different papers' reprocessed AP content via Google. It underlined was how little localization papers do for their readers and how much they rely on the wires.

One thing I noticed over the weekend: like those "comments" announced a few weeks back, these hosted wire stories are not crawlable by other engines. Google blocks this via "robots.txt". So you can use Google Search to find Yahoo News-hosted content, since Yahoo News doesn't block, but you won't be able to use Yahoo Search to find Google News-hosted content...
