SmartSpark Energy Systems, a Champaign, IL., company that converts power generated from solar panels (which is DC) into AC power used in homes and business, said it has raised an undisclosed first round of funding from Battery Ventures.
SmartSpark’s technology, based on patents licensed from the University of Illinois, is part of an emerging field of “microinvertor” efforts.
The company’s other activities include BattleEQ, which makes rechargeable batteries last longer. The four-year-old company has previously raised $1.1 million in funding.
