Vivendi now delivering free, ad-supported mobile games

vivendi-garfield.jpgVivendi Universal is the latest giant media company to join the trend of free content delivery — supported by advertising.

For the first time, the company is giving away mobile games, supported by ads inserted with technology from a Silicon Valley company called Greystripe. That company’s AdWrap technology allows game developers like Vivendi to insert ads without making any significant changes to their code.

We’ve talked about Greystripe’s momentum before. It now says it has distributed 21 million mobile games free of charge with ads worldwide, apparently more than most carriers in a year. Hands-On Mobile and Konami are already using Greystripe to deliver ads.

The Vivendi titles include the award-winning After Dark Flying Toaster and Amy’s Hangman, Garfield Bowling, Garfield Euchre and Garfield Mice Sweeper.
