[...] Here’s the bad, though: It could mean turning over more data to Google, MySpace won’t really own the core platform, and it makes MySpace more dependent on Google. Moreover, it may not impact Facebook at all (some people are skeptical on the concept of the concept, and we’ve our own piece on its challenges). [...]

I think the LinkedIn and Salesforce aspects are potentially large and more focused on the business community. I can see potential expansion opportunities for my venture capital and tech company startup database in those networks.

I think Opensocial will be very successful because of the open platform, and get a jumpstart because of Salesforce (the strongest SaaS app out there) and Linked - the best professional network IMHO. LinkedIn had Hilary and Obama as questions there, and has a very business focused approach - compared to facebook - which is more fun and games focused. I think it makes a very good hub for all to connect on and still create specialized communities if they wish. In the identity and access management space this idea of a universal identity and context provider has very long reaching implications. The biggest issue is how do you maintain control as a user and decide who sees what from your social network. Once they figure that out, the enterprise market will be ripe for plugging into. This can also become the federation layer in some cases... maybe. Very good move Google.
