Being forced to invite friends before you can use an app or before you got results for a quiz allowed crappy apps to spread like wildfire. Facebook has now banned that which is awesome. Most of the apps offer little reason for a user to return. How many times do you do that same silly quiz? At what point does poking/biting people get boring? The challenge for app builders now is retaining users and building on the user experience. It is better to have a 10-20 percent daily visitor return than having 1,000,000 installs with 1% daily active users (Of those no doubt they are using the app for the first and last time).
