These websites are very helpful to motorists, but I believe they can also be misleading. The price quoted for a basic repair on these websites does not include any of the factors that can drive up the cost of the total job. For example, you ask for a simple quote on replacing the front brake pads. The quote would be unrealistically low because in many instances the front brake rotors would also have to be replaced, possibly the brake calipers and maybe even the brake hoses.

- Find a slightly shady mechanic shop, preferably if a friend recommends its overall quality of work
- Get other repairs done there (put money in the place's pockets)
- Tell them that you're not sure if you're going to pass inspection, and that you'd really like to make sure you do, with a big
