Great
Just what the world needs is another closed source technology monopoly.
Facebook's ability to raise funds and to have a high valuation is built on the backs of members content and actions. And for this members receive the free use of a closed source application that could be built in less than 6 months for under 100,000 euros, and that exist somewhere in Open Source at no cost.

Maybe it would be a bit fair to the members if they could at least have a copy of the software that their content has help to give a value to ? Maybe this way if Facebook decides to pull another Beacon; members have the choice of building a service that they want without having to be forced into being revenue Guinea Pigs for FaceBook.

Growth over money? you'r joking me right?

The main problem for FB is that the majority of the userbase is located putside the US and quite a bunch in countries with a very limited ad market, which means soon most of their users will be located in markets they can't capitalize.

So, in short, their are giving away a service for free, 'cause they won't make that money back.

Facebook has plenty of uncertainty ahead of them, but they have a ton of users, money, and a lot of smart people. I'm putting my money on Facebook ultimately turning into a very successful venture.
