I find the subject very appropriately discussed on this post. Also, Mandy's comment on the interactions, conversations and limitless ideas sounded very accurate. I find important Rodrigo Mazzilli's comment and question and I have a view about where Orkut is headed to with no major investment.

Orkut's appeal is being renewed by the social applications, which provide new entertaining (and sometimes even useful), participatory and collective experiences to more and more active users, who now take it as a new type of "television with computer and friends" and enjoy the apps as the new type of shows being, say, co-written or at least acted by them. It means, Orkut is becoming what social apps creators help users make it be!

Despite that, Orkut's look-and-feel is sure traditional and not eye-candy, but its simplicity, clearance and usability are not that different from Twitter and set Orkut as long-term benchmarker. It's just a standard stage where users and apps make the show.

Social advertising is definitely going to be a big thing and right the ones who seem to be leading the game is facebook, socialmedia, adexcel.com and some others. what makes it interesting is that ads are becoming more richer not just with flash or video, but it's becoming more interactive with different people and creating conversations within the ad that makes community insights on ads richer e.g. facebook feedback on ads and adexcel's comment and ratings on ads. the ideas are limitless..

Exploring the social graph from Orkut and Google Friend Connect has good potential in Brazil as this de-facto standard in Brazil, differently than in the US, where Facebook took over the social networking landscape.
That said, many early adopters in Brazil have already shifted to Facebook. Orkut has mostly forgotten by Google. The platform is old, buggy and its design is, well, miserable.
The question is, with no major investment, where is Orkut headed?
