DEMO: Webroot provides security for users who log in from multiple computers

webrootWebroot is an established security software vendor that has a presence in both desktop and web-based computer security solutions. The company is now introducing Webroot Internet Security Complete to protect consumers who work with multiple computers.

webroot-2The service, which will be unveiled at this week’s DEMOfall 09 conference, protects consumers’ identities and personal information, using real-time threat defense, password management and file-sharing services.

The challenge is that the company will face big competitors such as Symantec, McAfee, and Trend Micro. But the company is not so small itself; it was founded in 1997 and has more than 300 employees. And the company believes that many antivirus products are mired in the legacy of desktop protection and haven’t thought enough about protection in the age of the web.

For instance, Webroot is focused on protecting you wherever you log into a computer or web site. When you sync your content such as music across multiple devices, you have to be careful you’re not transferring malware from one device to another. Webroot will guard against that.

The Boulder, Colo.-based company has received a first round of investment from venture capital firms including Technology Crossover Ventures, Accel Partners and Mayfield.
