Dell building an Android phone for the US (report)
It looks like computer maker Dell is building its first mobile phone for the United States, one that will use Google’s Android operating system. Since the phone will reportedly run on AT&T’s network, not only does this news add to Android’s roster of device manufacturers, but it also means the mobile OS will be on all four major mobile networks in the US.
The new phone will be a modified version of the Android phone for China, the Mini 3i, that Dell announced in August. The news was first reported as a rumor on CrunchGear yesterday, and although Dell isn’t confirming it, The Wall Street Journal says it’s hearing the same thing (with the added news about AT&T) from its sources.
Assuming the WSJ story is correct, Android will have gone from two (known) mobile carriers in the US to four in the space of two days. Google and Verizon announced a partnership to develop Android phones yesterday.
