ProfileSnaps pops up social network profiles of people in pages
Entrepreneur Boyan Josic has come up with a useful variant on those pop-up windows linked to names and words in the middle of news stories. He uses the format to deliver info on people. ProfileSnaps pops up a profile of a person that’s been automatically loaded with their social network links, an About description in text, plus photo and video links.
ProfileSnaps has a whitelist of names whose entries it maintains, or it can be programmed to create additional entries on the fly. The entries are customizable, but part of their appeal is their reassuring familiarity. Once you’ve encountered a couple of ProfileSnaps entries, getting one of these instead of opening another window to get information about a person is a lot more convenient.
Josic’s challenge will be to turn ProfileSnaps into a de facto standard, so that people don’t have a what-the-huh reaction to encountering the snaps. He says he’s still looking at different revenue models. Sponsored snaps panels seem like the obvious way to go, in which case the success of the company will come down to ProfileSnaps’ ability to land the big deals.
