WordPress will not be left out of geo-tagging frenzy

Are tweets replacing blog posts? Who cares! Now that Twitter’s turned on its location feature, WordPress doesn’t want to be left out.
So today, the blogging platform is launching a feature that will let you identify where you’re writing from. Commenters can do the same as well. And it’s opt-in — so people can choose whether or not they want to reveal where they are. The new features will pave the way for location search, among other features that may include maps of commenters or of poll votes.
WordPress is only collecting the data in a machine-readable way:
Geotagged posts get marked up with the geo microformat, geo.position and ICBM meta tags, and GeoRSS and W3C geodata in feeds.
All those things help machines and search engines learn about where your posts are located. What about something for us humans? Right now, we don’t display geo data anywhere in a human readable way. We’ll be launching various maps, widgets, and shortcodes soon, though.
