YouTube tries out bandwidth friendly viewer Feather
For those with limited bandwidth who still enjoy watching quality videos on YouTube, check out the new streamlined watch page called “Feather.” Launched today within TestTube, the idea incubator for testing of potential products, Feather was developed so that users could experience the lowest latency possible if they have a less than stellar connection.
With the evolution of video to 1080p, it’s more important than ever to combat loading time and make video load and play quickly. The new design lacks several features including being able to comment and rate videos.
YouTube Engineer Chris Zacharias shared a recent video he watched that uses Feather here. You can see a screenshot below — it doesn’t look all that different from a regular YouTube page.
The product is in testing mode, but if mass adoption occurs, it could be released as a wide scale product.
