DEMO: AppVoyage expands its ad-building toolbox with AppBlox (video)

AppVoyage is one of 65 companies chosen by VentureBeat to launch at the DEMO Spring 2010 event taking place this week. These companies do pay a fee to present, but our coverage of them remains objective.

AppVoyage, a startup that provides companies and brands with the tools they need to easily snap together mobile applications and advertising campaigns, is taking its business model one step further with the launch of AppBlox.

AppBlox allows users to drag and drop different widgets and components together to build rich mobile apps and ads — and it’s as simple as Microsoft PowerPoint to use, according to AppVoyage founder and chief executive Sagar Golla. Each draggable module does something different to engage consumers. Essentially, the company is creating a marketplace for these various building blocks.

“Example modules are gaming elements like slot machines, or a simple add to address book,” Golla explained. “These modules glue together like lego blocks using PowerPoint-like tools and are published as a native app to app stores.”

Other modules give users the chance to enter a raffle, or get a discount on inventory. Users can even set up feeds within their ads so that new products are continually featured within their mobile ads. Let’s say a local camera store is using AppBlox — its owner could build banner ads that flash cameras only recently added to the store’s shelves, without having to re-build the ads.

AppVoyage doesn’t just help people build their own apps and campaigns, it also provides them with the tools they need to publish them and monitor their performance. If an ad doesn’t get a positive response, brands can go back and tweak them to optimize sales.

The company’s offerings are special because they don’t require any coding knowledge, like competitors Ansca Mobile and others. This also makes it ideal for use by ad networks and agencies that may want to offer these types of services to their clients, Golla said.
