MobileBeat 2010: Taking a close look at mobile advertising
With slick new devices and applications hitting the market, and as Google and Apple enter the field, the next few months should be an insanely eventful time in mobile advertising. And naturally, mobile ads will be a big topic at MobileBeat 2010, our conference on July 12 and 13 in San Francisco.
We’re not relegating it to a single panel, either — there will be several sessions taking a close look at specific issues and platforms. If you want to talk about all-advertising, all-the-time while attending MobileBeat, here are some ideas for your schedule:
- Mobile advertising in a cross-platform world — Brandon Kraham, formerly of AdMob and now mobile team manager at Google (thanks to its AdMob acquisition), will give a sponsored presentation on the growth of the smartphone ecosystem and how it affects mobile advertising and revenue. Monday at 11am.
- How to turn your Android into a money machine — Google says it’s activating 160,000 Android phones a day, but making money is still an issue. Most of the apps are free, and premium advertising brands seem to prefer the slick, controlled environment of the iPhone and iPad. Speakers from app store GetJar (the session sponsor), ad network Flurry, movie ticket service Fandango, music app Shazam, and others will discuss what it will take to turn Android into a moneymaking platform. Monday at 2:45pm.
- How can mobile advertising cross the chasm? — Brands are willing to spend money on mobile advertising, but campaigns are still too difficult to create and buy. A panel including speakers from NBC Universal, digital marketing agency Razorfish, and mobile advertising network Greystripe (the sponsor) will discuss how that might change. Monday at 2:45pm.
- Attracting big brands and bucks to your app — How can developers attract big-spender advertisers to their apps? A panel including speakers from CBS Interactive/CBS Mobile, mobile advertising company Jumptap (the sponsor), and music app Pandora will offer advice. Tuesday at 11am.
- Location and advertising: A new recipe for monetizing content? — A panel featuring Internet conglomerate IAC, location ad company Placecast, and app developer Shopkick. Read more details here. Tuesday at 11am.
- Apple vs. the World: the iAd wars — Panelists will look at whether independent ad networks can successfully compete with tech giants. Read more details here. Tuesday at 2:45pm.
Oh, and if for some crazy reason you haven’t decided whether you’re attending the conference, check out the details at the MobileBeat 2010 website, then register here. Hurry — tickets are limited.
