Wellcore secures $2M for fall detection system

Wellcore, a maker of mobile personal emergency response systems, has raised $2 million of an expected $3 million in equity and debt. Menlo Ventures participated in the round, according to a filing with the SEC. Based in San Jose, Wellcore’s clip-on devices can automatically detect falls and can send the GPS coordinates of an incident to family members if paired with a cell phone. The company, which was formerly known as Laburnum Networks, began shipping its safety solutions in May. Wellcore last raised $5.5 million in 2009.
