Virtual desktop developer Atlantis Computing gets $10M

Cisco Systems-backed Atlantis Computing, a maker of software to remotely access computer desktops, raised an additional $10 million in its third round of funding.

Interest in cloud-computing startups has exploded, leaving Atlantis Computing in a good position to grow as it provides server-side infrastructure to remotely access computer desktops.

Atlantis said the funding will help flex its marketing arm and expand internationally.

Users can remotely access their home, work or other computers through “virtual” desktops on any capable device, like a netbook or laptop, without having to be there physically.

The Mountain View, Calif.-based company’s ILIO software can use up to 20 times less storage than other virtual desktop infrastructures, according to the company’s website. It uses a combination of virtual desktop providers Citrix, VMWare and Quest, among others, to help reduce storage costs.

Atlantis is privately held and funded by El Dorado Ventures, Cisco Systems and Partech International. All three participated in the latest round of funding.

We’ve reached out to El Dorado to confirm how much the company raised in its first and second rounds of fundraising and will update later if we hear back.
