I agree completely. Furthermore, not only are they still too young to have the audacity to think that they will continue to grow or maintain their 2b/year, but I strongly believe that facebook, yelp, google and others will wipe them off the map sooner or later. Also, I believe that the whole groupon concept of group buying may actually be a 'trend' of sorts and could be on its way out as well. The businesses across north america cannot continue to use groupon service indefinetly. Look out for hybrids of groupon on facebook/yelp/google and groupon, well you missed out big time and I hope some of you groupon employees start investing your money in other areas, because your own company is not going to be longlasting…

First time we see this in NYT the public is told 500M/yr, doing 660 deals/day. That means, what? $2/deal? I thought they were getting more/deal – tough to say. Their CEO only agrees to talk miniature dollhouse construction. Oh wait. 2nd day it's reported in the NYT we see a new number – $1B. Same number of deals/day?Now it's $2B?There isn't any chance that someone in this scheme would not tell the absolute truth when reporting numbers would they? They don't have a quant getting innovative in the CFO role… do they?

I don't think it's a matter of voluntary or involuntary. By automatically using the Internet (Google searches especially) Google collects user data.

That's actually a pretty good question. Right now the split seems to be dominated by Groupon with the rest of the tail picked up by LivingSocial. I wonder just how much room there is for an established service like Yelp or Google to come in and take a crack at the daily deal space.

I'm still not convinced the daily deal space has established itself outside of a timely set of startups that'll be folded into other services like Yelp. So I'm not sure what kind of valuation Groupon has/should have right now.
