This article is BS and restates, without validation, the same attributes the valley has come to believe makes a great entrepreneur. Steve Jobs is a great entrepreneur, yes. Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates both came from wealthy families and could afford to take the kind of risk most people can't dream of. Same with Jeff Bezos and Tony Hsieh– great entrepreneurs, sure, but when you have made your first million it's a lot easier to make the next one. Steve Jobs is the only one listed here I would actually consider worth emulating (his drawbacks and unethical stock dealings aside, for now).

Guts isn't quitting Harvard over the summer to take a few million in funding from an A-list VC like Peter Thiel. Guts is bootstrapping to a few million in revenue, even though it means the press will ignore you and hiring will be a b*tch.

I think it takes guys either way. In my opinion, entrepreneurs have some weird mental insanity. Why work for nothing when you could work corporate, make $50-$150,000 a year salary, benefits, etc. and enjoy your weekends? I think entrepreneurs are out there to prove something. They typically weren't the “popular” kids in high school or college – most of those went into consulting -> MBA -> iBanking. Entrepreneurs want to prove that they can create something innovative, achieve fame, and be recognized and known. After all, humans seek praise and recognition more than sex and money.

A successful entrepreneur should write this piece as this lawyer has been fooled. Entrepreneurs are more calculating and methodical about their businesses and futures than the schmucks who work their way up in companies. It takes guts to work for someone else.
