Amazon cloud server was used to attack Sony

Amazon.com’s cloud servers were used by hackers to attack Sony’s PlayStation Network online gaming service, according to Bloomberg.

Citing an unnamed source, Bloomberg said that the hackers signed up for a legitimate Amazon web services account, which allows companies to rent data center computing power to power web-based businesses.

The hackers used an alias to rent a server through Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud service and launched the attack from there, according to the source. The account has since been shut down.

The attack brought down the PlayStation Network, which has 77 million registered users, as well as Sony’s Qriocity and The Station services. All told, more than 100 million accounts have been compromised. Sony and Amazon declined comment to Bloomberg. Unfortunately, the story doesn’t say if the discovery of the rented server will give law enforcement enough leads to make an arrest in the case.

And if we remember correctly, Amazon also went down at the very same time.  Still haven't gotten a word on whether or not they are linked.

Thats why I bought a PS3 in the first place as I could use it as a backup so when my $300 Windows7 goes Kaput! I could still get online and check my things but they said NO you can't run a Linux OS. Now about all it's good for is watching crummy formula movies, getting hustled to buy crap I don't want, need or care about and getting brow beat by a bunch of bratty kids at Playstation home. Got hacked eh? like the wife says NO sympathy for the devil, No rest for the wicked. It's like dealing with an Indian giver here you have this then 5 minutes later they want it back. I can't use your servers well ok, I have more fun playing GTA4 without the others online so there.
