As you are all aware Nintendo has just released the long-awaited installment to the critically acclaimed Legend of Zelda series, Skyward Sword. And while the game is receiving universal praise from various review sources, it seems some reviewers believe that the old Zelda formula has become stale.
And by some reviewers I am specifically referring to Gamespot.
Out of all the reviews that I read for the game this is the one that caught my eye the most; according to this particular reviewer the structure has become ‘predictable’ and the game becomes repetitive as you repeat the pattern of a quest followed by a dungeon.
To this I say what do you expect?
I have currently put around 7 hours into the game and I am having an absolutely brilliant time with it; not once has the game frustrated me or bored me with repetition and why would it? If you bought Skyward Sword expecting the whole formula of the franchise to be turned upside down then you obviously bought it for the wrong reasons.
In the same way that fans of the Call of Duty games buy the games every year for its fast and fluid FPS action, long-term Zelda fans will buy Skyward Sword expecting to find the same dungeon-crawling, puzzle solving, action-adventure that the previous games have given them.
In the end Zelda will always be Zelda; there’s always going to be an Elf with a green hat saving Princess Elf from a great evil after going through various dungeons, trials and puzzles.
And to be honest I wouldn’t want it any other way.
