VGA Trailer: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Metal Gear is back, but the next game in the series won’t be in the Solid sub-genre within the giant-selling franchise from legendary Japanese game designer Hideo Kojima. Rather, it will be in the Rising part of the series, with the unveiling at the Spike TV Video Game Awards of the new game Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

Long-time character Solid Snake won’t be appearing in his usual main role. Instead, Raiden, who has helped Solid Snake on missions before, will be appearing in the main role as seen in the newest trailer for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

When Kojima got up on stage, he flubbed up his announcement. Then again, he’s paid to make video games, not talk about them.

In the trailer, it is evident that Raiden, who was first seen in Metal Gear Solid 2, and then again in Metal Gear Solid 4 in a bigger role, will be the main protagonist in the new Metal Gear title. The game is a spin-off from the well-received Metal Gear series, and is being developed by Platinum Games and produced by Kojima Productions.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be released on Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Platinum Games is the studio behind Bayonetta. The trailer has lots of game play footage, and its combat even seems a little like Bayonetta, with all kinds of fast-action sword play and the opportunity to slice foes up like onions.
