It’s hard to manage life in general. We have work, family, problems, events, and being social with many things. Games are like that. There are those who review, design, write, and make walkthroughs for various games that are out. The two things that make everything come together is time and interest.
With today’s modern games, length have to match the price of the game. Your interest is more what you like within the game. Since GTA 3 or even The Legend of Zelda (the first one) were games we didn’t think that time was of the essence because the interest of what we can do and explore was there. Compare them to today’s games, we expect more from these modern games that don’t waste our time. If all we’re going to do is shoot or beat something or someone up for the next 7-10 hours, that repetitive nature has to evolve throughout the game. that
With mechanics like QTE’s and cut scenes filling in the action for breaks or for results, we can’t just sit by and feel like this is acceptable when our interest was built to some big momentum only to be let down of what is actually happening. Putting in the time and work into a game has to have rewards.
RPG’s have a harder time due to its story alone. With investing much of your free time grinding and saving money to buy weapons (and this include MMO’s too), you can’t have a lackluster plot that been done better in the SNES days. I know that Persona 3 has way too much time for gamers but the story and the things you can do in that game keeps your interest. Problem is, both the time and interest won’t apply to many gamers but more to RPG players.
How do we overcome this problem? Companies need the time and money to develop these franchise and we as gamers have to support some of them with our purchases. Even with independent games for download being the norm now, we have to put forth our time and interest to enjoy games now. Back in the day, no matter how wacky the game was, it kept our interest with music, dialogue, memorable characters, and well design level. Not so much unless your more of a Multiplayer.
So how do you use your time in a game or what keeps your interest?
