The Assassin’s Creed 3 trailer was recently let loose at the Game Developers Conference with a bunch of new exciting showpieces. The game appears to be sporting an entire new environment, a new protagonist, and large-scale warfare!

The game will emphasis on the Mohawk Valley 1777

The trailer kicks off with an eagle flying high above the Mohawk valley. If you don’t remember, the eagle is symbolic for the assassin order. Conner, the main protagonist, grew up in a Mohawk tribe, so this area must be very important to him.

The game will feature dual-wield combat

Even though dual hidden blades are already a familiar weapon set for the assassins, the trailer shows off Conner’s flashy skillset with a hatchet & dagger in hand. He was easily able to strike down two opponents simultaneously.

George Washington will be a part of the cast of characters

At the end of the trailer, who appeared to be George Washington (iconic military leader in the Revolutionary War and first president of the United States of America) is seen giving a speech before a massive battle with the British takes place.

Large-scale warfare

At the end of the trailer, two massive armies, the British and the Americans, rush into combat. With recent news that the game’s engine has been updated to allow thousands of soldiers to appear on the screen at any given time, there is the possibility we’llget to participate in a battle or two. It would be the perfect time for Ubisoft to introduce such a mechanic since the time setting for the game would be perfect. How Conner would play a role in that beats me; maybe he works for Washington?

New environment, new skill set

In past Assassin’s Creed games, assassins are renowned for their expert climbing and navigation skills around cities. In the trailer for AC3 however, we see Conner climbing trees and jumping from branch to branch. Even though the game is rumored to co-exist in Boston and New York, it would be neat be able to roam some of the surrounding forests. It would make sense, Conner is Native-American after all.

Hunting in Assassin’s Creed 3?

Thought not featured in the reveal trailer, a screenshot released last Friday highlighted Conner tracking an animal with a bow and arrow in hand. While the thrill of hunting wolves doesn’t really enthrall me, maybe enemies we find out on the battle field will no longer be only human. The “open & wild” environment may interfere.

Release Date & the Wii U

The end of the trailer gave us the release date, October 31, 2012 and the supporting platforms it will arrive on, PS3, PC, Xbox 360, and the Wii U! The Wii U edition was not confirmed whether or not it will launch alongside the other platforms or not, but it will arrive before the end of 2012, meaning Nintendo must be planning to launch their upcoming console globally sometime this fall.
