Vote for the best gaming prequel of all time.

NOTE: Voting is now closed. We will share the results soon. Thanks!

Films like Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace may have given prequels a bad name, but developers have set many of the most popular games in history chronologically earlier than their predecessors.

The recently-revealed God of War: Ascension proves that prequels will continue to be an attractive way for developers to extend the life of a series without having to worry about the consequences and story concerns that come with making a sequel. Still, this announcement made us wonder which release is the greatest prequel in gaming history.

Well, we thought we’d find out once and for all. Below is a poll containing over 20 titles nominated by the staff of GamesBeat and Bitmob¬†and our followers on Facebook and Twitter.

Please note that we’re defining a prequel as any game takes place chronologically earlier than titles released before it in a series. For example, God of War: Chains of Olympus takes place before the first God of War but hit the stores almost 3 years later, so it counts as a prequel. However, God of War 2 takes place before God of War 3, but it doesn’t count as a prequel since it also shipped before the latter.

Now then, get voting! We will close the poll in a week and share the results soon after that.
