Sega’s U.S.-Europe CEO to leave this summer

Mike Hayes, chief executive of the U.S. and European game business for Sega, will resign his post during the summer.

Jurgen Post, current chief operating officer in Europe, will replace Hayes as CEO in Europe, but Sega did not name a successor for the U.S. business. The move isn’t a big surprise as Sega doesn’t have the same brand luster as it once did among gamers. The Japanese company has a tough job in expanding to new game platforms and building its presence in Western markets.

Hayes joined Sega in 2004 and was involved in the acquisitions of Sports Interactive and The Creative Assembly as well as shifting the publisher into digital markets.

“Mike has achieved a huge amount during his time at Sega and we thank him for the amazing things he has accomplished,” said Naoya Tsurumi, president and representative director of Sega.

Hayes will remain an advisor to Sega.
