The Art of Blizzard collects 20+ years of skulls, mushroom clouds, and giant wyrms (images)

If you’ve ever wondered what over 20 years of gaming history looks like in book form — and surely you must think about that daily — Blizzard has just the tome for you.

The World of Warcraft developer is taking preorders for The Art of Blizzard (due out this fall) at San Diego Comic-Con this week. The 352-page volume includes over 800 pieces of concept art, paintings, and sketches as well as commentary from Blizzard artists and franchise developers.

GamesBeat has scored three images from the book that won’t be at Comic-Con.

Diablo by Brom

Fans of clicking things to death will recognize the subject of this work by Blizzard community artist Brom: the titular villain from the Diablo series of role-playing games.

Marine vs Hydralisk by Wei Wang

Senior concept artist Wei Wang answers the question, “Who would win in a fight between a Marine and a Hydralisk?” in this StarCraft II piece, originally released by Blizzard as a PC desktop background before the game launched.
