These Tim Burton-style Pokémon look so stricken (gallery)

In the words of copy editor Jason Wilson, “It’s ‘Grotesque Pokémon Week’ at GamesBeat.” Between these watercolors from Wednesday and what we’re about to show you, it’s either a good time for the adorable fighting animals or the worst time ever.

Tumblr artist Hat Boy is working on reimagining the original 151 Pokémon — from Nintendo’s Red, Blue, and Yellow titles for the Game Boy handheld system — in the style of director Tim Burton. This means big(ger) eyes, asymmetrical bodies, and stripes everywhere.

So far, Hat Boy has turned 11 adorable Pokémon into sullen beasts. I can’t wait to see what he does with Tentacruel (pictured above), since that thing’s straight out of a Freudian nightmare as it is.
