A crazy new cooking simulator under development by the Tokyo Institute of Technology can apparently re-create the feeling of cooking by using a feedback-ready frying pan and numerous sensors.
The tech, which you can see in a new video from DigInfo, can calculate things like moisture evaporation and temperature to digitally show the changes of food being cooked. The frying pan feels as if you have food in it, and as you cook, meat changes from red to brown and vegetables go dark.
“This technology combines a rigid-body physics engine library and a heat-conduction simulator,” Fumihiro Kata, a represenatative of Tokyo Institute of Technology, says in the video. “The heat-conduction state changes in line with the amount of physical contact, and the simulation is achieved by combining them.”
While cooking a dish in real life several times seems like a logical way to get it right, we do like one aspect of the simulator. Ideally, it means you don’t have to waste food to learn how to perfect a dish (or at least it can get you close to making it right).
