Edutainment application company turns to entertainment industry veterans for leadership

Kids 6 to 12 are overwhelmingly asking for an iPad for the gift-receiving gift-giving holidays.

I suspect that many of them will attempt to persuade their parents with an argument that hinges on how important a tablet is to their education. Developer Mindshapes is filling that role on iOS device and on the web. The studio produces educational and entertaining apps for young children, and today the company is announcing its new leadership.

Former Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. executive Nina Pustilnik will act as co-chief executive officer alongside Chris Michaels, the former head of publishing at family entertainment company Chorion.

They replace co-founder David Begg, who will move into a “strategic advisory” role.

“We are very grateful to David for both his vision and leadership in bringing the company to where it is today,” said Mindshapes chairman Shukri Shammas. “We are also delighted to have in Chris and Nina — two new leaders with deep experience in the entertainment, digital, and kids’ industries — who can help lead our company and talented team into the next phase of growth and success.”

Mindshapes brought on Pustilnik and Michaels to bolster its credentials in the entertainment and publishing industries. Both have knowledge of what kids notice, and Mindshapes plans to leverage that against its innovations in the mobile space.
