The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is officially a next-gen title for PlayStation 4

Geralt of Rivia is bringing his monster-slaying skills to the next generation of video game consoles. Polish developer CD Projekt RED today officially announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will launch on the PlayStation 4 in 2014.

This marks the first time the action role-playing series will be available as a PlayStation title. The announcement follows yesterday’s big reveal of Sony’s new console in New York.

CD Projekt RED studio head Adam Badowski said his team was thrilled when it was asked to be one of the developers granted early access to the PlayStation 4 several months ago. “It was an exciting moment to be invited to be in the company of other legendary developers like  Bethesda, EA, LucasArts, Ubisoft, or Activision as one of the teams working on titles shipping early in the PlayStation 4′s lifecycle,” he says. “Of course, we couldn’t reveal any specifics about this to our fans, even though many journalists and forum members asked about when and how The Witcher might show up on Sony’s console. After yesterday’s PlayStation Meeting we can finally promise: The Witcher 3 is coming to the PlayStation 4.”

Although it’s the last installment of the series, CD Projekt RED says The Wild Hunt is a standalone story. It’s being designed on a newly built graphics engine called REDengine 3, which the developer claims will push the graphical limits of what the PlayStation hardware can display.

Although there is no firm release date, CD Projekt RED says The Witcher 3 will launch simultaneously on all high-end platforms in 2014.
