PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection turns a year old

About 365 days ago, Sony recommitted to making its PlayStation Plus subscription service a valuable investment for gamers. To accomplish this, it introduced the Instant Game Collection, which offers a handful of complimentary games to anyone who pays the monthly fee.

But what started as a handful of games has grown into a huge pile of PlayStation Network and full retail titles that PlayStation Plus gamers will have access to for as long as they maintain an active subscription.

Since June, Sony and its publishing partners released 16 retail PS3 games, five retail Vita games, and nearly three dozen PlayStation Network titles.

“Gamers want games,” Sony senior director of digital platforms told GamesBeat in September. “In retrospect, it seems like, yeah, of course. Gamers love games. But we came to that conclusion through a mountain of data, and we really landed on this idea that not only are we going to put free games on the service, but we’re going to put great free games on the service.”

Every month, Sony offers a new slate of games to its customers. Plus subscribers have a month to download those titles before they disappear. That means that new subscribers can’t jump on and start downloading dozens of games, but longtime members could have built up a sizable library.
