The Last of Us gets a new multiplayer mode in patch 1.03

The Last of Us is not necessarily a game that is known for its multiplayer, but that’s primarily because the single player is so engrossing. Despite all of the accolades dumped on the zombie-survival game’s campaign, developer Naughty Dog is still pouring time and effort into the online portion and will release a new mode in the next update, according to Kotaku.

Patch 1.03 will introduce Interrogation to The Last of Us’ multiplayer. It’s an objective-based battle where both teams have a lockbox filled with supplies that they must protect. To get access to the enemy’s safe, each side needs to capture and hold opponents to build up enough intel, but a player interrogating the enemy is open to attack.

Once one of the teams builds up enough points after interrogating the opposing team for long enough, it can make an attempt to capture the lockbox.

It’s a complex mode, but it also has some original concepts that could help The Last of Us’ multiplayer draw as much attention as its campaign.

Patch 1.03 will also feature gameplay and technical fixes for the multiplayer. For example, Naughty Dog is increasing the range in which players can revive one another. The developer also enabled players to kill and stop others from performing special executions on their teammates.

The update is free and is due out soon, but Naughty Dog didn’t provide a date.
