Game Informer has shown off the national gaming-magazine’s cover for its December issue, and it’s sure to get Tolkien fans in a tizzy. This is our first look at Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, an open-world action game for current and next-gen consoles.

Shadow of Mordor takes place between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It focuses on the story of Talion, a ranger who journeys to Mordor to get vengeance for the death of his family.

Shadows of Middle-earth will also feature an innovative new feature for enemies. “Developed for next-gen consoles, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor introduces the Nemesis System, a powerful and dynamic gameplay mechanic that allows players’ actions to shape enemy relationships and characteristics to create personal and unique story and gameplay arcs that are persistent even after death,” Warner Bros. detailed in a press release sent to Kotaku. “Players experience a unique game every time as the dynamic world reacts and adapts to their choices.”

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor will come out for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Warner Bros. has not announced a release date.
