PLYMOUTH, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–May 6, 2014–
Biometric Intelligence & Identification Technologies (BI2 Technologies), a leading provider of biometric identification technologies, announces the issuance of US Patent No. 8719584 entitled “Mobile, wireless hand-held biometric capture, processing and communication system and method for biometric identification.”
Sean G. Mullin, president and CEO of BI2 Technologies said, “The issuance of this patent is truly a game changer. Imagine the potential uses, growth and applications as a strategic capability for virtually every industry and market where verification of identity is important.”
Peter Y. Flynn, co-founder of BI2 said, “This technology is completely horizontal and can become a strategic differentiator for every organization – from smartphone, tablet and radio manufacturers to network communication and third party application providers to system integrators within vertical markets and industries such as financial service, banking, transportation, construction, government, cyber security and intelligence.”
ReportsnReports.com estimates the Global Mobile Biometrics market will grow at a CAGR of 156.9 percent over the period 2013-2018.
The patent covers a mobile, wireless biometric identification system which includes a biometric capture device, associated software and processes which enable a commercially available wireless communication device, such as a smartphone, using a commercially established wireless communication networks, to capture a digital image of a human biometric (iris, fingerprint, etc.) for transmission via a secure connection to a central server. The capture device is designed to focus on the difficult task of capturing the highest possible quality image for encoding and comparison, while the overall system is designed to leverage the existing cellular communication network. At the server level, the server system receives the image, encodes the image to a biometric template, and compares the encoded template to a plurality of reference templates stored in a database to identify the individual. Identification data is then transmitted back to the device and displayed.
